*great workout class!*
Instructor: Leena
Originating in the Punjab region of India, Bhangra began as a folk dance conducted by farmers for
expression of celebration. Bhangra commemorated the coming of the Spring and marked the birth of
the new Bhang harvest, a time known as Vaisakhi celebrated by Punjabis. Bhangra ushered in a new
beginning, a rebirth of the Earth, a means for farmers and the common people of Northern India to
salute the new season. Today, Bhangra survives in different forms and styles all over the globe. In
fact, Bhangra has been hailed by many as the world’s fastest growing dance and musical form. Today,
bhangra is celebrated everywhere by people of all ages and races – from the radio, to pop music, and
even to collegiate competitions. As Bhangra becomes more well-known, some of its practitioners try to
maintain its traditionalism while at the same time embracing its evolution as an art form. This

Level 2 track (become a bellydancer)
Instructor: Leyla
Recommended for students who understand the foundations of belly dance, this track was
designed by Leyla for students who are serious about learning the art of bellydance. Each month
the topic changes in a succession of classes that build on the last month. To finish the course
would take about a year but students are not required to take every month (however some months
would require the previous month's class or the equivalent experience). Some classes are a great
workout for anyone wishing to tone their core, including beginners. Others are more geared toward
refining grace. Advanced level students can also benefit from some classes in this track as well for
strengthening and refinement of technique. Leyla is currently in the process of publishing the Level
2 course
